Event Blast: From Body to Earth

From Body to Earth:

Reconnecting to Self, Community and Mother Earth through body and voice

Philosophy: You in the Circle of Us

Through the body we can sense our interconnection with all things and viscerally perceive that we are not separate or isolated but a part of a much greater whole. Event Blast: Symposium Series on Sex, Politics, and Religion

The Peace Studies Department and Student Life Present …

A Symposium Series
SEX, POLITICS AND RELIGION: ALL THE SUBJECTS MY MOTHER SAID NOT TO TALK ABOUT IN PUBLIC!

Hosted by Professor John Cobb

When: Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 12 PM
Where: Performing Arts Center (PAC), Arapahoe Campus

In recent cases, the Supreme Court has once again plunged awkwardly and contentiously into these “private” areas and joined them with new corporate rights and powers.  We will discuss the growing wealth inequality in the U.S. and how that threatens to erode fundamental rights, such as voting rights, or the expansion of rights, to health care for example. Professor Cobb will discuss the Citizens’ United and the Hobby Lobby cases and their implications for our future. We will discuss the future of a women’s right to choose and access to contraception, as balanced against the increasing influence of “religious” views even in the Supreme Court. We will also connect back to the “personalization” of the corporation, so that it becomes a moral, even religious, entity.  Where is this all taking us and what can be done about it?

Lunch provided by the Office of the President.
