Two Exhibitions/One Performance
Paper Floor and Biomimetic Installation Art
Paper Floor: December 11, 2014 to January 18, 2015
Paper Floor is a performance installation; conceived and live-directed by guest artist Leeny Sack with Naropa University’s second year MFA Contemporary Performance students. Leeny Sack has performed and taught extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and in Asia at venues including the Venice Biennale, The Edinburgh Festival, The American Dance Festival, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She has taught at Naropa University since 2008.
Paper Floor is both residual evidence of the cohort’s process of identifying, incubating and composing material for their thesis performances and a performed installation event which will leave additional relics and evidence created in the moment. It begins as a ‘scroll event’ and has been inspired in part by the Patuas of India, the Cut-Up Method, Fluxus, Embodied Dreaming, Linda Montano and Cynthia Bourgeault’s chanting and Sack’s object work I/Thou, I/It.
The performance artists are: Allison Caw, Stephen P. Geering, Victoria Pilar González, Katie Jones, Bobbi Kaye Kupfner, Kate Moore, Gabrielle Orcha, and Ben Waugh.

Biomimetic Installation Art: December 5 to December 12, 2014
Biomimetic Installation Art exhibit shows Naropa University student’s installation works directed and taught by Lisa Moses. Lisa is a Denver multidisciplinary artist and designer whose work includes installation art, graphic design, architecture and furniture. Her academic background includes a Masters of Arts IARCH, Rhode Island School of Design; Collegiate Teaching Preparation Certificate, Brown University; BFA Sculpture, Pennsylvania State University, and she studied in Rome, Italy for RISD’s Architecture Studio and Tyler School of Art’s Sculpture Program. Over the past decade she has taught and been a visiting critic around the country. Presently, she teaches at The School of the Arts at Naropa University.
The exhibition of installation art is based on biomimicry, which is the imitation of the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. The students studied the elements of their immediate surroundings and developed works of art based on their experiences and research that are site specific and multi-purposeful. Materials include burlap, dirt, clay, water, found wood, seed pods and sound. Each distinctive installation piece reflects the student’s inspiration through nature.
The artists are: Emily Black, Charles Braddock, Monica Dionysiou, Alexander Johnson, Nicholas Roos, Molly Rose Strugatz, Krystal-Anne Sullivan, and Joyce Watts.
